  • I give three PowerPoint presentations per day. The size of the group doesn’t matter, as long as everyone can hear me and see the screen.
  • I speak to Kindergarten and up (preschool children are too young for my books). Presentations for younger students last half an hour. Second grade and up are 45 minutes to an hour. I am always happy to take questions.
  • I customize my talks according to the age of the audience and am happy to accommodate your special requests. I usually begin with a little about my childhood, what inspired me to become an author/illustrator, and the important role that reading played in my life. The body of the talk can emphasize my picture books, particularly the fairy tale retellings (for younger children), my biographies and the research that goes into them (for older children), or my novels with an emphasis on developing writing skills (for middle and high school students and adults). I can also take you through the process of making a book and show how I do my sketching on the computer using a graphics tablet (this is always popular with the kids.)
